The integrated ide controller did not recognized it at first, then I tried a different approach using its own software for formatting, but it was keeping deleting or corrupting the MBR and losing my partition. Detailed: it was allowing me to create a 20 Gb partition, and then when I was trying to create another partiton using fs2, it was creating it, formatting, resisting till the red hat installation, running a time or two, then everything was lost. I got a 40 Gb Hd, and it works just fine. I have W2K, W98 and Linux: first I installed 98 then Xp that got the loader than RedHat 8, which has an improved Lilo and has given me no problem in installing the boot manager. W2K works fine but it still is a bit slow, just enough to tell me not to put Xp. Anyway it works just fine. About Linux: the network, the firewire ports (of the base), the IR and the Hd were ok at the first shot, the audio and modem with your suggestions worked at the 2nd shot. The only problem is the mouse, that is a know issue and is under fixing by some friend ad Usb-bsd group usb-bsd-owner@eleetbsd.org . Another problem is when I take away the base, linux does not like it, i mean that during the reboot hangs... I had to mount them drivers as modules (firewire and usb) but there is not that much i can do I guess. well, I hope I had been of use. Thank you for your time again.
